New Recycled Big Cotton Yarn

Helen Rose
21 July 2021

Well, hello babes!

This week is a super exciting one for us, and also something we’ve never done before – announce a new product before it’s available to buy 🙊

We thought we’d give you a teaser and a taster of what’s coming this Saturday so you can get as excited as us – and maybe set your alarms for the launch…!

LAD Recycled Big Cotton Yarn

For those of you who have been following LAD for a while, you’ll know we’ve been hunting for a chunky cotton yarn for ages. We hadn’t found anything that we were happy with, that had the ethical qualities we wanted or that had the chunkiness we preferred. Well, we’ve found some! And it’s glorious! And the colours are divine! We literally had to stop ourselves stocking every single shade that was available because we literally don’t have the storage space right now 😂😂

Welcome to our recycled Big Cotton yarn! It’s not actually being launched until Saturday morning but we really wanted to give our blog subscribers a little heads up and if you’re not already signed up to the email mailing list to be alerted you can also do that now…

Talk to me about Big Cotton Yarn

Okay, let’s dive in and introduce you properly to Big Cotton…

✔️ Recycled cotton yarn – Global Recycled standard and OEKO-TEX approved which means the cotton is not only free from harmful substances, but has been produced with verified responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in the production.

✔️ Suitable for use with needle sizes 6-12mm. We’d say a perfect needle size is 8 or 10mm, but go for 6mm for a firmer finish and 12mm for a lovely looseness.

✔️ Each ball of Big Cotton is 100g in weight and approx 70m in length.

✔️ Currently available in 15 beautiful shades (and as soon as we have space we’ll definitely be stocking more – well, that’s if you love it of course!) **UPDATE June 2022 – now available in 29 colours**

✔️ Reeeaaaaally soft when it’s knitted up, so it can be worn next to the skin with no itchiness at all. It’s completely gorgeous to wear.

✔️ Unlike our Super Chunky yarn, the cotton is multi ply, rather than a single thread, so just be careful when inserting your needle to make sure you catch all the ply’s if you’ve never knit with this type of yarn before.

✔️ Machine washable at 30degrees – we’ve tested it on a delicates wash (30deg) and it comes out great – no stretching or mis-shaping. We would recommend drying flat afterwards.

We’re SO excited we’ve finally got an environmentally conscious cotton that is also washable and knits up a DREAM! And we really hope you love it as much as we do… We can’t wait to see what you knit up in it, and which colours you like the best.

We’ve got a few teasers of products coming up below, but we’ve also tried out a few of our current patterns – you’re welcome 😝

Gossamer Thread Jumper

Designed to be used with Mini Mohair, we knit the small size Gossamer Thread in the cotton and it’s ended up a beautiful slouchy lightweight jumper – and we love it! We knit it in Jade and used just over 6 balls of big cotton. This has sized up to more of a medium, and we made the sleeves a little shorter than the pattern suggested because it comes out a little bigger than when using the mohair, so bear that in mind when choosing your size in our current patterns.

Headband

Normally knit in our Super Chunky Merino, the headband is a perfect example of how well our cotton yarn knits up in rib… We’ve used the dreamy Wisteria Big Cotton which is such a beautiful summer shade…

Romper

The romper knit up in cotton has the huge advantage of being washable! So it will be cooler on bebe than the Super Chunky and also you can pop it in the washing machine too! (Plus this was a great excuse to get more photos of Livi in the blog…!) It has come out slightly bigger in the cotton that in the super chunky so size down…

So – this Saturday it’s the launch of the yarn as well as some bundles, and then over the following three weeks we’ve got some delicious new patterns and kits to share with you – and we can’t wait 😍 We’re also super excited about all the possibilities the cotton can bring, and we’re having fun with lots of new designs – so watch this space…
