11 Things every knitter needs

We all know nice yarn and chunky knitting needles can make knitting an absolute joy but we’ve compiled a collection of things that you might not know you needed… little things to make your knitting experience just *that much more* special.

Knitting notions that bring joy to both brand new beginners and the most experienced knitters alike.

Stitch Stoppers

Perfect for pausing midway through a project...Stick them on the end of your needles when you put down your knitting - they'll keep all your stitches in place so you can pop your knitting in your bag  or leave it by the soft and not worry about stitches falling off. An absolute game changer for any knitter!

Knitting Notepad

Honestly the knitting notepad is so underrated - PLEASE stop tallying your row count on an old envelope that you'll lose or even worse on the pattern itself (how confusing when you go to make it again)... I only know this happens because I've been there myself. The knitting notepad holds all that information for you and there's 50 tear off sheets so it'll see you through 50 projects.

Stitch Markers

Ok, hear me out... I know it's really tempting to use an old scrap of yarn and there's NO shade here but when you knit in the round a lot, I can't recommend these more. It feels like such a treat when you get to a marker and it's not a scabby old scrap of yarn but a cute and colourful metal hoop. I can't tell you why, but it makes knitting even better.

Pompom makers

Honestly, you just never know when you're going to think 'this would look a million times better with pompoms on'... I think at this stage it's safe to admit that we're all yarn addicts here, I KNOW you've got a yarn stash, I know you're keeping scraps. Don't tell me you've never wanted to whack them altogether and make some pompoms out of them? and if you haven't... babe, you are missing OUT!

ROCK-ON-RUBY-WOOL-BOOBS-T-SHIRT-LAUREN-ASTON-DESIGNS-12-1.jpg

Wool-Boobs T-shirt

OK, so technically it won't make knitting any easier but it will make it more fun... so that counts right? These t-shirts are the perfect gift for the knitter who has everything.

100% organic, GOTS certified and in collaboration with one of our small business friends - Rock on Ruby. You can't go wrong with a wool boobs T-shirt

SCISSORS-LAUREN-ASTON-DESIGNS-6-min-1.jpg

Stork Scissors

Do not tell me you're snipping with plastic handles scissors sis... you're worth more than that. Every loose end you trim should bring you joy, that why little things like special scissors are important AF

ROCK-ON-RUBY-KNITTING-MUGS-LAUREN-ASTON-DESIGNS-5-1.jpg

Knitting Mugs

As always, it's about the whole experience and in my opinion there's nothing better than having a cup of tea and a biscuit to accompany your knitting (that and something great on the TV). Another one of my options is that tea tastes better in a great mug so all boxes ticked here!

LAD-BAGS-LAUREN-ASTON-DESIGNS-4-3.jpg

LAD Bags

If you're a regular LAD and have bought any of our knit kits they will have arrived in a LAD Bag you might already have loads but if you're anything like me, half of them are full of unfinished projects, there's a couple being put to use storing needles & tools and there's one that kicks around upstairs to store your pants in when you go away. The moral of the story being... LAD project bags can ALWAYS be put to use.

TapeMeasure-group2_1024x1024@2x-1.jpg

Colourful Tape Measure

I know, I know... another basic, but make it cute! Is knitting even worth measuring if your tape measure isn't ADORABLE? Little tools like this make the whole process a joy and that's super important for both new and experienced knitters.

ALPACA-FLUFFING-UP-WITH-BRUSH-LAUREN-ASTON-DESIGNS-1-SQUARE (1)

Mohair Fluffer-Upper Bomb

If you've ever knit or worn or own anything made from Mohair you're going to want to take a look at this comb... brush over your mini mohair or alpaca knits with the teeth and it will bring fresh fluffy life to them! The stitches instantly change from being a bit hairy to clouds. And lets be honest, who wants a hairy cardigan when they could have a cloudy cardi?

PEARL-DOER-UPPER-LAUREN-ASTON-DESIGNS-4-1.jpg

Doeruppers

Our favourite post-project accessory... and our customers too apparently! The doer-uppers are a stroke of genius if we're honest. They unscrew at one end so you can thread them through your knitting... they're a brilliant button alternative if you want to close clothing, they add detail, they cinch and clinch and pinch wherever you need them to. Plus they come in 2 sizes and 4 colours so there's one for every knit.
